ST. LOUIS POLICE WIVES' ASSOCIATION SEEKS DONATIONS
AS SUPPLIES NEAR DEPLETION
Organization Works to Provide Ongoing Support to Local Police Officers During Times of Crisis
ST. LOUIS, MO (Oct 17, 2014) ... The St. Louis Police Wives' Association (SLPWA), which exists to provide support to local police offers and their families in times of need, has been serving 600 meals a day to officers around the clock, seven days a week, since mid-August. Resources are now nearing depletion, leaving the organization unable to proactively prepare should additional instances of wide spread civil disobedience occur.
"When the command posts are activated, officers are placed on mandatory 12-hour shifts with little time off," commented Hope Jones, spokesperson for the St. Louis Police Wives Association. "When on duty, officers are unable to break their line to get food or even use the bathroom. Making sure our officers have food in their stomachs and the support they need to ensure the safety of as many of our areas citizens as possible is currently our priority."
The SLPWA is seeking snack items, such as sunflower seeds, nuts, beef jerky and trail mix that officers can easily fit into vest or cargo pockets so they can carry what they can with them to help sustain them throughout the day. The organization is also in need of energy drinks (most requested items by officers), Visa gift cards that can be used at any restaurant or grocery store, and monetary donations that can to used to purchase whatever is needed, when it is needed, such as antibacterial wipes, Band-Aids and food supplies.
Area residents interested in investing in local officers and the safety of the St. Louis area are encouraged to either make a monetary donation through the SLPWA's website at www.stlpolicewives.org,or drop off energy drinks, individually packaged snacks and Visa gift cards at one of two drop off sites. These include the Ferguson Fire House at 200 S. Florissant RD. and Third Baptist Church at 620 N. Grand M-F 9am-4pm and Saturday Oct 18th from 9-12. Questions regarding donations can be answered by calling 314-625-0781.
In addition to providing meals, supplies, drinks and whatever else an officer or his/her family needs during times of crisis, the SLPWA members help connect families to counselors, provide babysitting services for one another and offer much needed emotional support.
