Legislative Session Opens
On January 6th, 2010 the Second Regular Session of the 95th Missouri General Assembly convened. As expected, Representative Jamilah Nasheed has prepared a local control bill in the House of Representatives. As of this writing, the bill has not yet been filed but Representative Nasheed has secured some cosponsors and is attempting to secure additional cosponsors for this legislation.
On Wednesday, January 13th, President Tom Walsh, Recording Secretary Ed Clark, Division 11 Representative Martin Garcia and I made the trip to Jefferson City. Together with our State Lobbying Firm, Flotron McIntosh, we met with numerous legislators to address the SLPOA’s concerns. We intend on making this trip on a biweekly basis but, we will be increasing our presence there as the session progresses. I will be encouraging other members of the Executive Board and members of the Legislative Committee to join us as well. Any other active member who has a desire to be involved in our legislative efforts is encouraged to contact me. We have been receiving positive feedback so far, but we know we have a fight ahead of us
